Introduction to Pastor Faaolataga Tango Vao

Pastor Faaolataga Tango Vao serves as the Senior Pastor of Unity REK Church Pukekohe, now in his fourth year of pastoral ministry within this vibrant Assemblies of God New Zealand–affiliated church. Known simply as Tango, he brings a unique blend of spiritual depth, life experience, and professional versatility to his leadership.

Tango has been married to his wife, Tofia Vao, since 15 December 2012, and together they are raising their two children—an anchor of joy, purpose, and motivation in his life. Family support has been central to his journey, something he openly acknowledges with gratitude.

In April 2026, Tango graduated from Alphacrucis College New Zealand with a Diploma in Theological Studies (Level 5), Class of 2025, earning Merits. This milestone marked a significant step in his calling, one he describes as a new season opened by God. Reflecting on this chapter, he shared:

“Looking forward to learn and grow more in this new season that God has opened up for me. Resilience, hard work, obedience, faith, and trusting God through different seasons has brought me to this point, especially the support of family. Chaplaincy was not on my radar—computer programming was my career choice. But my love and desire to see people be transformed by God’s love is far more rewarding.”

Currently continuing his studies in 2026 at Alphacrucis, studying the Diploma in Chaplaincy (Level 5), and working part-time for Vitae NZ as a Staff Support Person.

Before entering full‑time ministry, Tango built a diverse professional background across leadership, applied technology, recruitment, logistics, and quality assurance. His experience includes roles such as Talent Finder at Advanced Personnel Services, Storeperson Administrator and Forkhoist Driver at DHL Supply Chain, Quality Assurance Specialist at Southern Cross, and warehouse operations at Plumbing World. He also holds a Bachelor of Digital Technologies, a Diploma in Information and Communications Technology, and a National Certificate in Computing (Level 4).

These experiences have shaped him into a pastor who relates naturally to people from all walks of life. His personal profile captures this well: he is a thoughtful listener, someone people approach easily, and a steady encourager who helps others navigate life’s challenges with wisdom and compassion. Outside of ministry, Tango treasures time with his family, enjoys sport and music, gets to the gym when he can, and dreams of becoming a golfer one day.

Pastor Tango leads with humility, authenticity, and a deep desire to see lives transformed by the love of God—qualities that continue to shape the heart and mission of Unity REK Church Pukekohe.
