Introduction to Co-Pastor Tofia Vao

Tofia Vao is a dedicated leader, organiser, and relationship‑builder who serves as the Centre Manager at Ko Awatea, the innovation and education hub based at Middlemore Hospital. With more than a decade of service at Ko Awatea, Tofia plays a central role in creating an environment where learning, collaboration, and new ideas can flourish. She oversees the daily operations of the centre, manages visits and events, and maintains strong working relationships with joint‑venture partners, clinicians, educators, and staff across the organisation.

Before stepping into her current leadership role, Tofia worked as Ko Awatea’s Customer Service Coordinator, where she helped shape the experience of thousands of visitors by ensuring the centre’s facilities, events, and services consistently met a high standard. Her earlier career includes leadership roles in the hospitality sector, including Manager of Guest Services at Novotel, where she gained extensive experience in staff management, customer care, financial reporting, and operational oversight. She also held administrative and fleet‑management responsibilities during her time with LeasePlan.

A former student of Sacred Heart College Napier, Tofia studied Tourism and Travel Services Management — a foundation that has supported her strong people‑focused approach and her ability to create welcoming, well‑run environments.

Tofia is deeply grounded in her faith and heritage. She is the daughter of Pese A. Ofisa and Vaelua Lotu Ofisa (Vaelual Tiitii), both known for their steadfast prayer life and service. She carries their legacy of humility, compassion, and spiritual strength into her own work and family life.

She is married to Tango Vao, and together they are the proud parents of two children. As a family, they are active in their church community and committed to serving others with integrity, warmth, and a heart for people.
